Beyond The Songs: Auburn

In a world of fake names in the entertainment business, a musician’s moniker is often as real as an artist’s singing talent. There is however, nothing fake about our Beyond the Songs artist, “La La La” singer, Auburn Williams. The 21-year-old St. Paul, Minn. native is fresh in the pop scene, but her musical talents have been years in the making.

Auburn’s musical roots are non-traditional for your average pop singer. Auburn grew up listening to different gospel music artists in a strong faith household.

Auburn quickly realized music was something she wanted to be a part of and joined an all girls group at 13. The group did not survive long, but she did not give up on music and started writing her own music and distributing it through the Internet.

Myspace was an outlet for fun and creativity in music for Auburn and something that she initially would do just for friends and family. With production work from her cousin, Auburn rapidly gained a name for herself in the digital world.

What began as something fun for Auburn quickly became a hobby that gained the attention of masses of fans on Myspace and many music producers. Auburn received notice from J.R. Rotem and was soon the first female signed to the talented Beluga Heights label.

Auburn then moved to Los Angeles and began writing new music for her debut album. While working with her labelmates, Auburn was presented a song that was written by Iyaz that captured her attention, “La La La.” Only wanting to make music that she had written, Auburn made the exception for her good friend Iyaz. The single has gained heavy rotation throughout the country and put Auburn’s name and singing on the map.

With her debut album set to come out early next year, Auburn continues to write songs about her life inspirations. Despite the pressures of the promiscuity of the pop world in music, Auburn still stays true to her strong faith through her lyrics and life.
