One of those leading the charge for a North Dakota diversion got the answers he was looking for during a meeting with Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. Former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer says Pawlenty told him he's prepared to find ways to help fund the project if it's built in North Dakota.
Pawlenty says he's committed to permanent flood protection for Fargo-Moorhead but is not picking sides over where it should be built. The corps of engineers is leaning toward a flood diversion on the Minnesota side because it's cheaper and more likely to get federal funding but Schafer and others claim the corps logic is faulty. Local leaders have until April 15th to make a decision. Pawlenty was in town to get a first hand look at Moorhead’s flood preparations.
